Abstract
The American protestant culture has been an important factor in the development
of policies concerning drugs. This moral rhetoric has served to justify to the public
prohibitionist strategies and legal banning of drugs; as well, it justifies the role of
the state in establishing various mechanisms of control in the name of protecting
public morals.
